When we close our eyes we glimpse visions of what may have been, what is, maybe even what is to come. We dream, we see alien worlds and strange creatures even if we don’t remember them in the morning. Inside our own minds are our realities, but there are other realities all around us in the minds of every single person and art is a nexus that can tie these realities together.
My art has evolved in the past few years to become more tightly coupled with the weird and the wonderful. The dreamscape, the shape inspired by a cloud, or even the faces in the colours and shapes I see when I close my eyes. In some cases it is a distorted world that I see as my own fears and anxieties that show me the unusual things of the darker places of our mind to find beauty, and others, the corruption and darkness beneath the beauty.
This show is my nexus. My window into the worlds and beings of my mind, the worlds beyond the day to day. As I often wonder. “Do I draw them because I dream them, or do I dream them because I draw them?” Are they just fragments of my mind, corrupted data from the hours and days gone by, or is there even a chance that I get to peer behind the curtain of our reality into another nexus through imagination and dreams?
Dan Hawksworth Artist Biography
Dan Hawksworth is a Winnipeg born and raised contemporary visual artist whose primary focus is on pen/ink based illustrations. For Dan, art is a form of art therapy that allows him to process the world around him and allow his imagination to roam freely whether through the realms of fantasy, mysticism, science fiction or popular culture. For most of 2018 his focus has been on pen only illustrations while also working with inks on various media (paper, illustration board, and canvas) either as solely ink based paintings or to bring life and vibrancy to his acrylic works on canvas.
His illustrations also extend into cartooning focused on his character Dee Dragon which is a fun house mirror view into how Dan perceives the world as well as occassional social commentary and satirical works. Other mediums that Dan works with include pygrography, painting and he beginning to explore creative writing to further bring to life his original characters and worlds.
